Merced County Launches New Battery Recycling Program

At Mid Valley Disposal, we support safe and responsible waste disposal. That’s why we’re excited to share that Merced County now offers a new battery disposal program! Residents can safely drop off household batteries at convenient locations across the county.

Find a Drop-Off Location

The program features 21 collection sites and one mobile location for small battery disposal. These sites help keep hazardous materials out of landfills while protecting the environment.

💡 Use this interactive map to find a drop-off location near you.

How to Properly Dispose of Batteries

To ensure the success of this program, follow these simple guidelines:
Tape or bag batteries before disposal to prevent safety hazards.
Bring only small quantities—this program is for household battery disposal, not bulk drop-offs.
Businesses or organizations hosting a site should monitor collection boxes to ensure proper use.

Why Proper Battery Disposal Matters

Improperly discarded batteries are the leading cause of fires in the solid waste industry. When crushed or damaged, they can spark and ignite fires, putting waste collection vehicles, processing facilities, and communities at risk.

Batteries also contain harmful chemicals that can leak into the environment if not disposed of correctly. By taping, bagging, and using designated drop-off sites, you help reduce fire risks and protect our communities.

Let’s work together to make this program a success! For more details and a full list of locations, visit the Merced County Regional Waste Management Authority website.
